THE CASTLE OF KORONI
It was built during the 6th-7th century A.D. and it is situated in an significant geographic area. The castle residences and temples are preserved and it is still being inhabited. It is famous for its Venetian architecture.
THE CASTLE OF METHONI
It is located at the southest point of the western coast of Peloponnese on a rocky cape. It was built the 7th century A.D. and pinpoints the wealth and importance of that era. In the concluding area one can find important buildings, ruins of residences, Turkish baths, quite a few reservoirs and cemetery relics of British captives during the WWII.
THE CASTLES OF PYLOS (NIOKASTRO AND PALAIOKASTRO)
Niokastro was built in 1573 by the Ottomans. It's purpose was to control the southern entrance of the cove of Navarino. Inside the castle a Turkish aqueduct and the ruins of the gothic church of Metamorphosis of Saviour can be found. Nowdays, the "Centre of Submarine Archaeological Research" is based and operates inside the castle.
The anterior fortress of Koryfasio, named "Palaiokastro", was built by the Franks in 1278, with an aim to control the northern entrance and the old harbour. It has a rectanglular shape with quite a few square and round towers and right next to it one can find Nestora’s cave, well known from Pausanias.
THE CASTLE OF KALAMATA
The castle of princess Izampo was built the 13th century. It is constituted of two bunker yards, which are basically its two defensive zones. The exterior ground includes the fortification of the slope towards the East and an internal fortress.
