The International Dance Festival of Kalamata first took place in 1995 and it has accomplished to gain a special place and recognition in the festivals of south Mediterranean. Furthermore, each year, various sport events like the International Meeting of Track & Field "Papaflessia" , the International Meeting of Rhythmic Gymnastics or the International Festival of Bridge take place in the capital of the prefecture, Kalamata.
